Clevertouch Delivers the 8 Rs of Sustainability in Technology

Clevertouch follows the 8 Rs Sustainability FrameworkRethink, Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Repurpose, and Recycle

Rethink
Rethinking the design and development of interactive panels involves re-evaluating how these devices are made, used, and disposed of, with a focus on sustainability. This approach encourages innovation in materials, energy efficiency, and user experience to create more environmentally responsible products that meet evolving educational and corporate needs.

Clevertouch’s innovative development team are at the forefront of rethinking the design, functionality, and user features of technology. They have introduced sensor motions to monitor activity and revert to standby to reduce power consumption; and improved MDM to manage multiple screen scheduling to maximise control over power consumption.

Refuse
Refusing involves rejecting the use of non-sustainable materials, unnecessary packaging, and components that have a high environmental impact. In the development of interactive panels, this means prioritising eco-friendly materials and avoiding practices that contribute to waste and pollution.

Clevertouch has changed the packing process to reduce the quantity of plastics used in standard industry packaging. Current packaging is a minimum of 90% recycled materials, with the aim to achieve 100% by end of 2026.

Reduce
Reducing refers to minimising resource consumption during the production and lifecycle of interactive panels. This includes designing for energy efficiency, using fewer materials, and extending the lifespan of devices to lessen the environmental footprint associated with manufacturing, operation, and disposal.

Clevertouch has adopted numerous resource consumption methods from including recycled materials in production to reduce the demand for new raw materials, developing products with a long lifecycle which allows for OTA upgrades to reduce the need to replace hardware when new software is released, using green transport where available, and facilities with solar power, motion detection lighting, and dedicated recycled waste material disposal.

Reuse
Reusing involves designing interactive panels and their components for multiple purposes or longer lifespans, allowing devices to be repurposed or upgraded rather than discarded. This approach helps maximise the utility of existing technology and reduces waste.

Clevertouch deploys OTA upgrades to extend the lifecycle of hardware, ensuring a longer lifespan.

Repair
Repairability is crucial in sustainable development. Developing interactive panels that are easy to repair encourages users to fix issues instead of replacing entire units, thereby conserving resources and reducing electronic waste.

Clevertouch has experienced repair services teams throughout the globe. These teams are positioned to reduce travel to end users, and to increase the longevity of hardware by repairing equipment using care packages included in the initial sale and delivery of panels.

Refurbish
Refurbishing entails restoring used or outdated interactive panels to a like-new condition through cleaning, repairing, and upgrading. This process extends the life of devices, offers cost savings, and minimises environmental impact.

Clevertouch had dedicated partners that the reuse of hardware equipment either through complete upgrades, or component reuse in repairs and new production.

Repurpose
Repurposing involves adapting existing interactive panels for different functions or environments, such as transforming a classroom display into an interactive kiosk for corporate training. This flexibility maximises the utility of the hardware and reduces the demand for new manufacturing.

Clevertouch products are versatile, ensuring that end users can deploy them for a variety of purposes. The integrated software can convert a panel from digital signage to interactive learning and meeting environments to improve the performance and capabilities of the hardware.

Recycle
Recycling is the final step in the lifecycle of interactive panels, where materials are recovered and processed into new products. Designing panels with recyclable components ensures that valuable materials are reclaimed, reducing landfill waste and conserving natural resources.

Clevertouch has a Bring Back Scheme that enables end user customers to have their WEEE Waste collected, destroyed, and recycled.

Clevertouch’s approach to sustainability goes beyond compliance — it’s built into every product and process. By embedding the 8 Rs into our innovation, we’re reducing waste, extending product life, and helping customers meet their own ISO 14001 and ESG goals.
