Turning Everyday Lessons into Interactive Learning at Cregmore National School

How Scoil Phádraig Naofa uses Clevertouch interactive displays to bring lessons to life, save preparation time and get pupils actively involved.

The Challenge: Too Many Tools, Not Enough Flexibility

Delivering a technology-led lesson meant relying on a whiteboard, projector and separate speakers. For teachers, that meant more equipment to manage and less flexibility when they wanted to quickly introduce something visual or interactive.

For fourth-class teacher Niamh O'Carroll, technology needs to do more than put a lesson on a screen. It needs to make teaching simpler and give pupils more ways to get involved.

The Solution: One Screen for the Whole Lesson

At Scoil Phádraig Naofa, Cregmore National School in County Galway, technology is already an important part of school life for its 240 pupils. Instead of a whiteboard, projector and separate speakers, Clevertouch brings the display, audio and connectivity together in one screen.

"So now with Clevertouch, it's one solution. It's an HD screen. It's bright. It's vibrant. The speakers are integrated."

Niamh can connect iPads, phones and laptops, while accessing images, video and sound directly from the display.

One simple example shows how this changes a lesson. While reading a class novel, Niamh's pupils came across a gannet, a bird they weren't familiar with. Rather than explaining what it looked and sounded like, she could immediately find an image and play its call on the Clevertouch display.

A question from a book became an opportunity to see, hear and explore.

The Result: Less Preparation, More Participation

Clevertouch has also made everyday lesson planning easier. When teaching a maths topic, Niamh can save the work pupils complete on the board and return to it the following day. That creates continuity between lessons without having to recreate previous work.

The built-in countdown timer is another feature she uses daily, giving pupils a clear visual reminder of how long they have to complete an activity.

Most importantly, pupils aren't just watching the board; they're using it.

During maths lessons, Niamh brings groups to the display to work collaboratively on activities such as long multiplication. The result is a more active classroom where pupils are encouraged to participate.

"It gets them up out of their seats and there's always willing participants."

For Niamh, that engagement comes down to one thing: fun.

"I would sum up Clevertouch as being fun. It's created fun in the classroom and undoubtedly children learn when there's fun."

Staff also have access to lifetime training, helping teachers get the most from the technology as they build confidence or as new staff join the school
