Clevertouch Screens Added At Elementary Schools

About 140 of the interactive touchscreen boards were purchased by the Aberdeen Public School District, and installed at elementary schools in December 2021. Since then, teachers have been learning different features and how best to use them as part of classroom curriculum.

Aberdeen school board members heard a presentation on the use of the Clevertouch boards Monday at the board's regular meeting. That presentation came from Brennan Goehring, the Mike Miller Elementary School principal, and fifth-grade teacher Amanda Gauer, who showed board members some of the features they can use.

The Clevertouch interactive boards provide an update to the smartboards that have been in use in recent years.

"In today's world a smartboard is a very large mousepad," said Technology Director Joshua Jensen during the presentation. "We're going to be able to do a lot more with these than with a smartboard."

The Clevertouch boards are used for interactive lessons in the classroom and allow for student participation with their iPads, but Goehring and Gauer said that is just the beginning. The boards can be used to livestream student concerts in the classroom as they happen, so students can watch the performances by other classes. They can also be used to broadcast announcements and a live program being broadcast elsewhere. The boards are also on a remote-controlled mount that allows the position of the board to be adjusted lower for students or higher for teachers.
