In Discussion With Helen Kenniff

As part of International Women's Day, we speak to our team to discuss what it's like for women working in tech.

Helen is the UK & International Digital Signage Customer Services Manager

Tell us a bit about yourself
Born and bred in Australia, I have over 25 years’ experience in international marketing and communications.  In my downtime, I enjoy sport, dancing and am an avid albeit under the radar chick lit enthusiast.

How did you get into tech?
I have always had an interest in technology and on leaving university was at the forefront of the digital online grocery shopping revolution in Australia.  Working in industries such as motor-racing and mining expanded my knowledge of technology in alternative sectors, so in 2015 when I relocated to the UK and I had the opportunity to move to the manufacturer development side of technology, I never looked back.

Do you feel that women are supported in tech?
There are certainly membership groups that are ideal for women in tech to participate in.  These offer mentor relationships, peer networking and career development.  In the UK I have seen an increase in the number of women moving through what has been traditionally a male dominated management structure so am seeing positive improvement in women entering the industry and the growth of support for their development.

What’s your favourite thing about your job?
Having a background in marcomms enables me to understand how our end user customers can utilise our solution to better achieve communications goals both internally and with their greater audience.  My role is diverse so that I am involved in many departments from working with end users to identify their requirements, feeding that back to our product development team, and then being part of the marketing team taking our exciting product range to the market.

Do you have any tips for other women wanting to start a career in tech?
Learn all you can, be strong, confident and accept challenges.

What has been your proudest moment or biggest achievement?
Being part of the team that created the Clevertouch Digital Ecosystem.
