Ah… Microsoft Office – a teacher’s trusted friend since the very beginning of Windows. Where would we be without Word, Publisher, PowerPoint and Excel? Still covered in chalk dust, probably! Or trying to work out exactly where to stand to avoid blocking the OHP.
As any tech-savvy teacher knows, casting these applications straight onto a display screen from their laptop or classroom PC is easy. But, what if you want to create Office files at home and open them directly in your interactive touchscreen? I set out to investigate using my IMPACT Plus from Clevertouch.
Casting to the IMPACT Plus
Of course, most teachers will have a computer attached to their screen and the great thing about Clevertouch’s IMPACT and IMPACT Plus screens is that there are so many ways to do so.
If you’re one of the very lucky minorities of teachers who have been given a new laptop this year, you may have a USB-C port. This means that with just ONE CABLE, you can link your device to the board and access audio, visual and touch capabilities. (On the IMPACT Plus, the USB-C port will even charge your device. How amazing is that? No more panicking when you discover that a colleague has “borrowed” your charging lead.)
If you’re REALLY unlucky, you might have to link up via an old VGA cable – but that’s fine; the IMPACT screen can set you right up.
However, most of us will use the two-lead approach of HDMI and USB touchscreen cables. No matter how you connect, you’ll easily be able to open your Office files and use the IMPACT's touchscreen capabilities to navigate around.
What’s that? You want to connect with NO CABLES AT ALL? Then simply hook your device up to the same Wi-Fi as the IMPACT, download the Clevershare 2 app and screen mirror your device to the board. Navigate your Office files from your device, seated comfortably anywhere in the room.
And don’t forget, the IMPACT's floating pencil menu will allow you to easily annotate on top of any file displayed on the screen.
